Domaine Daniel Barraud
Who says white Burgundy has to be expensive? We love Burgundy and knows several great producers who make great wines with a reasonable price tag. Let us share our secret with you. Domaine Daniel Barraud produces superb white from Mâconnais. Less prestigious, less well known thus keeping it off the radar and keeping price reasonble. I have known and enjoyed the wines from
this domaine and highly recommend it to you.
From Burghound :I have said this many times but it’s worth repeating,Daniel Barraud is without question one of the finest growers in all of the Mâconnais and there is a credible argument to be made that his remarkable consistency vaults him right to the very top of the list.
Need we say more? We encourage you to try!
Domaine de Bois d’Yver
When Raveneau speaks,I listen
Domaine Raveneau,as you may know,is an indisputable king of Chablis. So when they recommend an up and coming Chablis producer,I did not hesitate to taste it. Located in high altitude hill of Courgis, their vines are less susceptible to frost and getting more sun than others.I’m delighted to report that their wines are superb, traditional and mineral Chablis. No,it’s not Raveneau but definitely a cut above. Another great find. And if you care, Domaine de Bois d’Yver is certified Organic producer.
Domaine Bonneau du Martray
#1 in Corton-Charlemagne. We are very excited to have Domaine Bonneau du Martray.
Why? Imagine three things,
1.White Burgundy is widely regarded to be the best
2.Corton-Charlemagne produces the best value for money among Grand Cru white Burgundy
3.Domaine Bonneau du Martray is the iconic domaine for Corton-Charlemagne and Corton Grand Cru
Put these together and now you know why. Try the wines, they are just great.
Domaine Michel Bouzereau
One of the top producers in Meursault. Price has not been catched up with quality as they are not “discovered” by the international market. The style is about finesse, minerality and purity. I have been drinking this producer since the late 90s and it is going from strength to strength Consider this my personal recommendation to those of you who adore finesse, mineral and purity.
Domaine Jacques Carillon
One of the holy trinity of Puligny-Montrachet is Domaine Louis Carillon (the other two are Leflaive and Sauzet).Domaine Louis Carillon may not feel like a superstar domaine which dues largely to the modesty of the vigneron and a tiny Grand Cru holding. In fact, they are arguably the most consistent in quality.
In 2010, Domaine Louis Carillon ceased to exist .The vineyards were splitted between the two sons. Jacques had been working along side his father for over thirty years. He continues his work under Domaine Jacques Carillon.I visited the domaine in 2014 and am thrilled to report that Jacques wines are a continuity of Carillon’s legacy.
Domaine Comte Armand
- #1 in Pommard, best known for their magnificent Pommard clos des Epeneaux.
- Superb quality across the board
- One of the few top domaines that still offers good quality to price ratio
Domaine Henri Gouges
Domaine Henri Gouges is arguably the most famous domaine in Nuits St. Georges. The Gouges family has been vineyard proprietors in Nuits for generations. They are among the first to start domaine bottling which ensures quality control over their wines. Their reputation and quality has been recognized as one of the benchmark domaines. Together with the cellar investment,Gregoire Gouges makes the wine with less extraction and less pumping .Gouges’ wines are now more accessible in its youth while retaining Nuits St Georges typicity of pure ,complete and balanced Burgundy wines.
I have been a loyal admirer of this domaine for a long time.
Domaine Henri Prudhon
St Aubin is a good place for good value Burgundy. The village borders Puligny-Montrachet and St Aubin white shares the similarity of Puligny’s steeliness but with less elegance and perfume. The red is restrained, classy with good fruit and minerality.
As usual, the key is to find reliable producer and I’m convinced I find it in Domaine Henri Prudhon. I first tasted their wines in 2008 , impressed with the quality and start following their wines. They have a solid record of producing good quality St Aubin year in,year out
Domaine Francois Raveneau
The most sublime and the most celebrated estate of Chablis, the wines of Domaine Raveneau are a rare find—exceptional because the vineyard holdings are almost entirely made of grand cru and premier cru fruit, painfully finite as so few are produced, outstanding because of their tremendous quality and consistency. The wines are very often disappeared quickly after released, snapped up by collectors worldwide.

Domaine Joseph Roty
One of the top producers in Marsannay and Gevrey-Chambertin. The Roty family has a long history of wine making, started during the time of Louis XIV.The current wine maker are the 11th generation of Roty family. They go for an intense, full and perfumed style. Yet ,the wines possess a remarkably level of harmony.
Etienne Sauzet
I had a hard time writing objectively about Sauzet wines. How can one stays impartial when facing some of the best wines one ever has? Let me share my view.
Sauzet signature is the supreme elegance almost to the point of weightlessness ,expansive in the mouth accompanied by the concentration of flavours and its precision ,steel like backbone. They are widely regarded as one of the holy trinity in Puligny-Montrachet (the other two are Leflaive and Louis Carillon). I’m passionate about their wines and it took me a long time to start a collaborationwith this benchmark producer. Biodynamic viticulture.
